About Us

Our Event

Our Half Marathon is the longest standing local event and was started by the club 35 years ago as a way of encouraging fitness, to promote Mount Maunganui and to create a running event for the locals (back when there weren’t many other events!).

We put this event on for love, not money.  Every one of our members understands and values the benefits of running and walking for fitness and for our mental health.  We want to share that love of running & walking with others, by providing an affordable event, that still has all the bells & whistles.   We are able to keep the costs lower than other events thanks to our local sponsors, local grants and thanks to a team of volunteers from our club.

For the past five years, we have donated any profit made to local community events, including the Mauao Trust and Bay of Plenty Wildlife Trust, who are committed to keeping Mauao (the Mount) predator free.

About Our Club

Mount Maunganui Runners & Walkers Club Inc has been going for over 35 years encouraging and promoting the fitness of its members through running and walking. Our membership includes people of diverse ages and abilities and currently stands at about 280 members.

We have a large active group of senior walkers fulfilling a vital role in promoting health and fitness amongst our local retired community. The club also provides an opportunity for parents to get back into fitness by offering child-minding services and a beginners running program twice a year.

QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND - SUNDAY 6 JUNE 2021

Now entering its 35th year, the Mt Runners & Walkers event is the original Mount Maunganui half marathon - enjoyed by over 1400 participants, and countless supporters and spectators, each year. Post event feedback consistently highlights the event's super friendly atmosphere and vibe. The course layout keeps everyone quite tight so there are always supporters, spectators, entertainers, cheerleaders and marshals close by.
